Sewing a Linen Robe

I used a vintage sewing pattern to make this linen robe with tie belt and contracts facing. This Singer sewing machine is one of the last all metal Singers, made in Italy from 1967 to 1971. It was sold as a mid priced or budget alternative to the more expensive models. This machine works so fast compared to newer machines but seems to require routine maintenance.

I took this to the Northwest Sewing Center on Burnet Avenue here in Austin and learned that the original owner had worked for decades at a Singer plant in Austin. When Singer began closing their US factories, this man opened his own shop. He has since passed but his daughter now owns and operates this small maintenance shop.
